open letter

From the president,

My husband, Abai and I started our early adult careers as school teachers. While he went on to other excellent pursuits, I remained on the field. Although our careers were on different paths, our lifetime partnership brought great joy and fulfillment. Not just to us but to a larger community in need of helping hands.

My husband created and carried a sense of perpetual hope , it was always with him and our children as well as their children are better for it.

This sense of hope bore me through several decades of active work and helped me prevail even in times of dire darkness. I saw the transformation of terrible situations by shining the light of Education. Yet some of my most promising students had the empowering skill but struggled with the wherewithal to make their dreams become reality.

My sincere hope is that the next generation of this family, with your help, will uplift the need wherever they see it. The need may not always be met by simply writing a check.. There is a place for consistent mentoring, support and reaching individuals with lasting impressions that drive them to succeed in spite of all odds.

I may not get many opportunities to address you in the future, but as I sit back in the eventide of my own life, my heart is at rest.

I know that you will do the requisite , you will be that light to dispel the darkness of lack and you will keep your hands on the plough until the fulfillment of this collective dream.

I am grateful for and applaud your willingness to be part of this great plan.

With Joy!

Elder (Mrs) Mercy Abai Ikwechegh.
